Enterum Sumium Randium Titlum Herum

Since everything is going so unbelievably slow this week in the Deltaweb Design Department (hey, that rhymes!), I thought I'd clue you in with what's happening in the office.

Well, first and foremost, Shjaell gave me the task of finding good affiliate programs, starting in South Africa. Yes, we are "secretly" creating an affiliate website! I have already done the layout and overall design of the website, which you will see once we are done with all the nitty-gritties. Sorry, no spoilers! We are also going to make advertising space available to whoever wants to advertise their business or product - categories range from anything to well, anything, excluding vehicles (we might allow bicycles) and pornography and anything that contains fowl language or images on the packaging. Whatever is inside is the buyers issue. And, of course, no drugs. ;)

The Stickman (Charltjie) is, as usual, sitting with his nose almost glued to his monitor, even as I am typing this, doing what he really does best - coding. We are both still in the programming-learning-phase, but, he is a genius, so he is much better with that than I am (at the moment). So I leave all the coding to his more than capable hands.

Until...

I have officially started studying at UNISA! I received my book and CD's today. Charltjie is also studying through UNISA, but we are doing completely different courses.

He wanted to do a full-time course on internet programming and all things computer-like, but because he was not in a South African state school, he did not have all the "necessary requirements" to do that course. Isn't that unfair?? So, instead, he has to do two whole semesters of English and an introduction to web design. Even though he was in an English school. If they looked at his marks only, he would surely have been accepted for the course which he chose to do in the first place. I do, however, understand that non-state schools (whatever they are called again, I think he went to a college) do not always offer the education required for acceptance in a university. So parents, be warned! And I wanted to put my children in a private school

Enough ranting and raging about something I can obviously not fix. I am doing a one-semester course called Introduction to the Internet and Web Design. I am so excited!! It is more than enough to teach me what I need to know so that I can boost my career (and the company). I'm so tired of always having to ask Charl to do something programming-related for me, then I still have no clue what he has done to fix my problem, even after he showed me. No, I am not a bad student, and yes, he isn't one of the best teachers, I just do not understand what he is trying to show me. So, a self-study course would be the best answer. Most of what I know about websites, design and coding (I do know a little CSS and HTML) is what I taught myself through tutorials and forums, and, honestly, a couple of hours messing around on Adobe programs. I still believe the best teacher on earth is yourself. Shjaell and my sis also bought me these really cool books this weekend on a few Adobe programs and Web Design. I can't wait to work through them! By this time tomorrow, yours truly will have the smarts to make an e-commerce website work, among other things. How great is that??!

Shjaell, on the other hand, has his hands full with his job at SJ Drilling. So I don't bother him much.

Oh, we are also invited to a meeting tomorrow for a chance to advertise our business and also our two directory websites, Omnimine.com and Thabazimbi.net - a wonderful opportunity made possible by one of our clients, Komma Nader Guest House.

I guess that's all news for now. Who would have taught I'd have so much to say? :)
Untill next time! Keep reading, and keep commenting - we really do appreciate your thoughts and ideas!

Retro website in the making!

This is a new website that we are currently working on - we are remaking the website of a super awesome guest house just outside Thabazimbi. I would love to spend a weekend there myself - no cell phone (well, not for chatting anyway), no computer, no work, and no studies! Just a relaxing weekend on a beautiful retro farm with my Bible and sketch book.
O, here, check out a few screen shots of the website. It is still a working progress, but we're almost done! This is what the website looked like before (yes, I know, it's old and horrifying):

And here are screen shots of what it looks like now, but the Accommodation page still needs photos of the, well, accommodation. :)

The Gallery page is not complete yet - as these are the only photo's available to us for now.
Updates will be posted soon.

I must say, this is one of the websites I had the most fun with. It's not too "busy" and I still had the opportunity to do what I wanted, within a few guidelines of course.
Can't wait to see it done and on line!!

I also had the privilege of re-designing their logo. In my opinion, this is the best (coolest and funniest) logo that I have made thus far:

'Till next time, folks!
